Institution's Innovation Council (IIC)

In November 2018, NGM College created an Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) as part of the MHRD, and they were honored with the first golden star by MHRD. IIC works to ignite entrepreneurship among students, and they do this through a variety of activities. From encouraging students with innovative projects to organizing product expos to showcase their inventors and hosting idea contests and hackathons to identify talented individuals and provide mentorship for them, IIC has made a point to facilitate venture creation.

The Ministry of Education (MoE) in India has established ‘MoE’s Innovation Cell (MIC)’ to foster a culture of innovation among all Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). The main objective of MIC is to support young students in transforming their ideas into prototypes. In November 2018, MIC set up Institution’s Innovation Councils (IICs) across selected HEIs with the aim of inspiring and nurturing students by promoting innovation and entrepreneurship. Till November 2020, more than 2200 institutions had set up IICs.

The focus of IICs is to create vibrant local innovation ecosystems, as well as start-up/entrepreneurship support mechanisms. Idea competitions and hackathons are held to identify talents, mentor and train them in order to help build ventures. Other activities include organizing workshops/seminars/interactions with entrepreneurs and investors; networking with peers; recognizing successful projects; and creating an Institution’s Innovation portal to highlight innovative projects carried out by the institution’s faculty and students.
